Revd. Frany Long is married with three grown up children. She was ordained in 2001 and served as a Non-Stipendiary Curate (part time) for four years at St Mary’s, Caterham, before transferring to being a full time Curate and moving to St. James, Riddlesdown. She was licensed as Priest in Charge of St. Swithun’s Purley and St. Mark’s, Woodcote in February 2008. This then is her first post in charge and whilst it is challenging she is fortunate to be surrounded by a group of loyal and committed people including a full time curate, the Rev’d Kathryn Percival, who support her in the many complexities of ministry. The Sunday commitment of Services is divided between the two churches, therefore she is unable to be at St Swithun’s main Service every week.
From an early age she was brought up in the United Reformed Church; however she did not find her own faith until some twenty years ago when she was confirmed in the Anglican Church. It may be because of this that she is very aware of the barriers and presumptions made by the church and her overriding goal is to facilitate worship so that people feel welcome and able to come and discover God for themselves.
